Session 1: Sept. 21 Orientation

Hello, I am Dale Engman and I teach 6th grade science, 7th and 8th grade technology, and the newly implemented 8th MedLab B class at Indio Middle School in Indio, Ca., Desert Sands Unified School District. I have also taught 6, 7, and 8th grade science, 6, and 7th math at Indio Middle School. For one year I worked at the Science Museum of Minnesota in their school outreach program. I traveled the state of Minnesota and Western Wisconsin performing shows on specific science topics to over 90 schools and about 30,000 students. In my free time I love to tinker with computers, read, golf, bowl, hike, and eat out at restaurants in the desert. I have been married for almost 6 years and I have 2 cats and 2 dogs.

I have had Newberry for other online classes before and love the format of the online class. So far I have three Blogspot address from my online classes. dengman.blogspot.com, 676engmanblogspot.com, and the newly started 674engman.blogspot.com. I am familiar with podcasting and blogging, but the rest of the online materials we will cover in this class will be part of the things I hope to learn.

So on that note, I hope to learn how to make online videos happen, what SKYPE (sp?) is and how to use the Internet to make my phone calls (if that falls into the realm of this class).

I am excited to get this ball rolling.
Thanks,
Dale :-)

Welcome back to the Newberry torture chamber!

Skype is in fact how you can make phone calls over the Internet. Go to Skype.com and download it. I keep Skype up when I'm in my office, except if I'm recording a podcast etc. so give me a call.

I guess I should have me head looked at for taking more classes :-)

I will give Skype a look-see, but at my district it is blocked, so my calling will be limited. I am on a modem at home and I believe it does not work off a modem?

I will give it a try from PDC.
